INTERPRETING SERVICES

Interpreters translate in real time, allowing you to meet face to face and speak freely with a client, colleague or associate who does not speak your language. The world is getting smaller so interpreting services are now a vital aspect of business and domestic public services too. Our services build bridges between cultures.

We have a global network of interpreters, each with their own area of expertise, and we can provide you with the necessary equipment to support interpreting for any function or event. Having assisted many of the UK’s legal 100 and 500 firms with such matters, we are very familiar with the associated requirements of legal translation and can provide an experienced court interpreter for any hearing.

Interpreting Services

Simultaneous Interpreting

We strongly recommend simultaneous interpreting for legal proceedings as it will reduce the amount of time spent interpreting by as much as two thirds, thus decreasing the time spent cross examining or listening to evidence provided by witnesses.

The work of a simultaneous interpreter is so intense that they often work in pairs, alternating every 30 minutes if the meeting or conference is longer than 1 hour. Simultaneous interpreters are the most highly trained and qualified linguists in the translation industry.

Consecutive Interpreting

We strongly recommend simultaneous interpreting for legal proceedings as it will reduce the amount of time spent interpreting by as much as two thirds, thus decreasing the time spent cross examining or listening to evidence provided by witnesses.

The work of a simultaneous interpreter is so intense that they often work in pairs, alternating every 30 minutes if the meeting or conference is longer than 1 hour. Simultaneous interpreters are the most highly trained and qualified linguists in the translation industry.

Medical Interpreting

Specialising in healthcare, medicine and pharmacology, our medical interpreters serve many of the world’s major drug companies, interpreting from and into over 300 languages.

They attend all kinds of events including:

  • Training conferences
  • Clinical meetings
  • Regulatory affairs discussions
  • Product launches
  • And more….

We are proud to have worked with the NHS and private clinics in the past. Many GP surgeries and hospitals are experiencing more requests for interpreters than ever. Failure to employ interpreters can lead to pressure being put on the families of patients to attempt to interpret on their behalf but mistranslation of prescriptions or diagnoses can lead to disastrous results which frequently lead to legal problems.

Telephone Interpreting

Many organisations regard telephone interpreting as a more convenient and cost effective solution than having an interpreter attend in person. It avoids unnecessary attendance costs and associated travel expenses. Our 24/7 telephone interpreting service allows our clients to call at any time with details of their requirements, safe in the knowledge that we will source an experienced professional to assist them.

Conference Interpreting

We provide simultaneous interpreters to attend all kinds of conferences. They sit in a sound proof booth and interpret what is being said via a microphone which is then relayed via headsets worn by the recipients of the target language.Let us know the details of the conference and the language required and we will provide you with a free quote on the same day.

Sign Language Interpreting

We are proud to offer a service that empowers the hearing impaired and bridges gaps of inequality that are still an unfortunate reality around the world. Whether you are legally required to recruit a British sign language interpreter or if you simply want to go the extra distance to ensure equal access for the hearing impaired, we are here to help.

commonly asked question

Got questions? We have answers.

Do I need an interpreter or a translator?

That depends on whether you need a written document translated or if you want someone to interpret speech.

If you have a business meeting with a foreign client who is not fluent in your language then you will both benefit from the services of a professional interpreter. The services are just as useful for conferences, court hearings, legal situations and many other scenarios.

Can I hire an Empowerlingua interpreter anywhere in the UK?

Yes, you can. We will always endeavour to select an interpreter that is closest to you to keep costs low. We can even provide you with an interpreter while you are abroad. To find out if we can get an interpreter in your country just contact us for a quote.

Do I need simultaneous or consecutive interpreting

Simultaneous interpreting (otherwise known as simultaneous translation) provides bilingual support in real time. Rendering the source language into the target language, a simultaneous interpreter will sit within a sound-proof booth and interpret what is being said via a microphone, which is then relayed via headsets worn by the recipients of the target language. The work is so intense that they will often work in pairs, alternating every 30 minutes if the meeting or conference is longer than 1 hour.

Consecutive interpreters are most commonly used in one-on-one situations such as hearings, small meetings, discussions, etc.Unlike simultaneous interpreting, there is no specialist equipment required, just the expertise of the interpreter and momentary pauses in sentences so that they can relay what is being said in the target language and respond in the source language.

How much does it cost to hire an interpreter?

We will calculate a quote for you if you contact us. The price will be calculated based on various factors such as the language or languages involved, the situation in which the interpreter will work, the length of time they are required to work for, and the location, as travel expenses will be included in the fee.

Do I need more than one interpreter?

Not for consecutive translation, though interpreters may require breaks every 45 minutes as it is a strenuous occupation. If you require simultaneous interpretation for a prolonged period of time then it is advisable to hire at least 2 interpreters so that they can take turns every 30 minutes so as not to interrupt your meeting or conference.
